Diesel particulate filter: regeneration and maintenance for industrial machinery

A diesel particulate filter captures soot and particulate matter from the exhaust. Its performance depends on regeneration temperature, ash loading, differential pressure and a maintenance plan matched to the real duty cycle.

What a diesel particulate filter does

Exhaust gas passes through porous filter walls while particles remain trapped. Soot can be oxidised during regeneration; non-combustible ash must be removed by professional cleaning.

Regeneration and ash cleaning

  • Passive regeneration uses normal operating temperature.
  • Active or assisted regeneration raises temperature when necessary.
  • Ash remains after regeneration and requires periodic removal.

Signs of restriction

  • Increasing differential pressure.
  • Loss of power.
  • More frequent regeneration events.
  • Temperature or pressure alarms.
