Diesel particulate filter: regeneration and maintenance for industrial machinery
A diesel particulate filter captures soot and particulate matter from the exhaust. Its performance depends on regeneration temperature, ash loading, differential pressure and a maintenance plan matched to the real duty cycle.
What a diesel particulate filter does
Exhaust gas passes through porous filter walls while particles remain trapped. Soot can be oxidised during regeneration; non-combustible ash must be removed by professional cleaning.
Regeneration and ash cleaning
- Passive regeneration uses normal operating temperature.
- Active or assisted regeneration raises temperature when necessary.
- Ash remains after regeneration and requires periodic removal.
Signs of restriction
- Increasing differential pressure.
- Loss of power.
- More frequent regeneration events.
- Temperature or pressure alarms.
