A diesel particulate filter (DPF) captures soot and particulate matter from diesel exhaust. In mining and heavy equipment, regeneration temperature, ash loading and backpressure are critical.
What a diesel particulate filter does
Exhaust gas passes through porous filter walls while particles remain trapped. Soot can be oxidised during regeneration; non-combustible ash must be removed by professional cleaning.
Regeneration and ash cleaning
- Passive regeneration uses normal operating temperature.
- Active or assisted regeneration raises temperature when necessary.
- Ash remains after regeneration and requires periodic removal.
Signs of restriction
- Increasing differential pressure.
- Loss of power.
- More frequent regeneration events.
- Temperature or pressure alarms.

PROAIR® is designed for high-efficiency particulate removal on industrial diesel machinery. When NOx must also be reduced, a combined DPF + SCR solution may be required.
